The foreigner can obtain a permanent residence permit, which is issued without restrictions on the duration and purpose of stay. Family members of Slovenian citizens and family members of foreigners who have a permanent residence permit or refugee status in the Republic of Slovenia can be issued a permanent residence permit after two years of continuous lawful residence in the Republic of Slovenia based on temporary residence permit. The time spent in the Republic of Slovenia for study and professional training is considered as part-time employment. However, time spent in the Republic of Slovenia for seasonal work, as a posted worker, as an intra-corporate transferee, as a daily migrant worker, or as a person with international protection is not considered.

A temporary residence permit can be extended under the same conditions under which it was issued. A foreigner must submit an application for the extension of the permit to the competent authority in the Republic of Slovenia before the expiration date of the permit.
Against decisions and decisions rejecting, dismissing, or suspending the application for the extension or issuance of a temporary residence permit, the foreigner may file an appeal within 15 days from the date of receipt of the decision or ruling. Temporary residence permits issued in the process of extending or issuing further temporary residence permits are delivered personally to the foreigner or their legal representative at the competent authority that issued the permit, or by mail. The method of delivery is chosen by the applicant when submitting the application for extension or issuance of further temporary residence permits.
