RESIDENCE AND WORK PERMIT

NEED LEGAL
SERVICES?

A single residence and work permit allows foreigners from non-EU countries to enter our country and reside temporarily and work in Slovenia. The aforementioned permit is issued by administrative units in a single procedure. The Employment office issues, we issue consent to a single permit if the legal conditions for each type of consent are met.

  1. Valid personal or official passport; it must be valid for at least three months longer than the period for which the unified permit is requested;
  2. Proof of means of subsistence during the planned stay; (employment contract, bank statement);

An application for the issuance or extension of a single permit can be submitted by: a foreigner or by his employer. A foreigner must submit an application for the first single permit to the Slovenian diplomatic-consular representation in his country. Employers can apply for the first single permit: in an administrative unit in Slovenia or at a Slovenian diplomatic-consular representation in their country. Foreigners from third countries need a single residence and work permit for residence and work in the Republic of Slovenia. The single permit is issued by the administrative unit, and consent to the single permit is given by the Employment office

The single residence and work permit for foreigners is issued by the administrative unit in the form of a card. The single permit is a document based on which a domestic or foreign employer can conclude a contract with a foreigner for employment or work in Slovenia.

The first single permit is issued to a foreigner for the duration of the employment contract, but not longer than one year. The single permit can be extended after the expiration date if the foreigner or the employer timely submit an application for the extension of the permit and if the legal conditions are met. The permit can be extended for the duration of the employment contract or work, but for a maximum of 2 years. The Employment office can withdraw consent to a single permit if the foreigner does not take up employment or register for compulsory social insurance within the legal deadlines. When the foreigner in Slovenia receives a single permit, EU Blue Card, or written approval, the foreigner must start working within 10 days of receiving the document. When the single permit or EU Blue Card is delivered to the foreigner outside Slovenia, the foreigner must start working within 15 days of receiving the document.

During the validity of the single employment permit, the foreigner may: change jobs with the same employer, change employers, work for two or more employers, or conclude a new employment contract. For this, written approval is required, issued by the administrative unit in the form of a decision. The decision on issuing consent must be made within 15 days from the receipt of the application, along with proof of compliance with legal conditions. If the legal conditions for granting consent to written approval are not met, Employment office inform the administrative unit, which by decision rejects the application for written approval.
